At the end of last year, YouTube updated its signature design, replacing its bright red branding with a softer gradientthat transitions from red to purple.

According to the company, one key reason for this change was that the old red could contribute to screen burn-in, particularly on TV displays.

The red shade introduced in 2017 had several drawbacks—it often appeared too harsh or even orange on some screens and put excessive strain on OLED and LED displays, potentially affecting their longevity. The new cooler, more balanced shade improves visual comfort and reduces display-related issues.

In addition to the color shift, a purple gradient now appears in various interface elements, including the video progress bar, Subscribe and Like buttons, Premium badge, and more. YouTube designers considered orange and yellow but ultimately chose purple as the most natural complement to the updated red.
