From 1 October 2025, Emirates will prohibit the use of any power banks during flights, citing safety concerns and a push to reduce onboard risks.
Currently, power banks are banned in checked baggage but allowed in carry-on. This will remain the case — however, passengers will no longer be able to use them to charge devices during the flight, nor charge the power bank itself using the aircraft’s outlets. Placement rules are also changing: power banks must be stored either in the seat pocket in front of you or in a bag under the seat, and may not be placed in the overhead bins.
Emirates said in a statement:
After a comprehensive safety review, Emirates is taking a firm and proactive stance to mitigate risk when it comes to power banks onboard. There has been a significant growth in customers using power banks in recent years, resulting in an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents onboard flights across the wider aviation industry.
China, Singapore, South Korea, and other countries also enforce strict rules on power banks following in-flight safety incidents.
