Elon Musk says his company xAI is preparing to sue Apple, accusing the tech giant of violating antitrust laws.
According to Musk, the App Store deliberately keeps AI apps from companies other than OpenAI out of the top charts.
In a series of posts on X, Musk claimed that popular products, including the X social network and the Grok chatbot, fail to appear in the "Must Have" app section, while competitor services receive preferential treatment.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded by suggesting that Musk might be using X for personal gain, adding that his own team intends to focus on "building great products."
According to CNN, Grok currently ranks sixth in the "Top Free Apps" section of the U.S. App Store, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT is in first place. Apple and OpenAI maintain close ties: in August, OpenAI unveiled GPT-5, which will be integrated into Apple Intelligence alongside iOS 26 this fall.
Musk’s feud with OpenAI has been ongoing for years. He left its board of directors in 2018, and in 2024 filed a lawsuit against the company and Altman personally, accusing them of abandoning the original mission and turning OpenAI into a closed Microsoft subsidiary.
