The Trump administration has proposed that Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC take control of Intel’s U.S. manufacturing facilities, Bloomberg reports.

What was once just speculation about a potential joint venture between the two companies has now taken a more defined shape and is being discussed at the highest levels of U.S. politics.

Intel has spent years trying to make its manufacturing operations more self-sufficient, but its financial struggles persist. Members of Trump’s team have already held talks with TSMC executives, and according to sources, the Taiwanese company has responded positively to the proposal. However, Intel’s official stance on the matter remains unclear.

Since discussions are still in the early stages, it’s too soon to outline the structure of a potential joint venture. The core idea is to hand over operational control of Intel’s U.S. plants to the world’s largest contract chipmaker, aligning with U.S. strategic interests while potentially helping Intel recover financially.
