OpenAI has announced that its AI-powered search system within ChatGPT is now accessible to everyone—no registration or login required.
This means users can search the web with ChatGPT and receive answers with cited sources. Initially launched in October 2023 for paid subscribers, OpenAI’s AI search expanded to all users in December.
By removing the registration barrier, ChatGPT now directly competes with traditional search engines like Google and Bing, both of which have already started integrating AI into their services. The latest update enhances usability by displaying link previews, maps, and images of local landmarks.
Notably, OpenAI isn't the first to offer AI-driven search without registration. Perplexity has already introduced a similar service, even providing hotel search results with TripAdvisor ratings. However, OpenAI’s move could significantly impact the search market, accelerating AI integration into online search.
