Google has confirmed that Android 16 will launch earlier than usual, with the new operating system set to be unveiled in June 2025—months ahead of the typical August release window.

Samir Samat, head of Android, made the announcement at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, as reported by Android Police. Traditionally, the final version of Android is released towards the end of summer, but changes in the development process have allowed Google to accelerate its timeline.

Previously, engineering teams worked on different parts of the OS separately, merging them only in the final stages. Now, a more synchronized approach has significantly shortened development and testing cycles.

According to Samat, Google is streamlining updates in response to user demand for a faster, more feature-rich OS. The new strategy enables more frequent updates and quicker bug fixes compared to previous releases.

Android 16 is expected to bring improvements in performance, security, and AI integration. Google will reveal more details about the update closer to its launch.
