Elon Musk has announced that a new advertising format is coming to Grok, the chatbot integrated into the social network X.
According to Musk, the platform will begin embedding ad units directly into the chatbot’s AI-generated responses. The move is aimed at boosting ad revenue and offsetting the high operational costs of running the service following the departure of former CEO Linda Yaccarino, reports the Financial Times.
Musk emphasized that X will now focus heavily on monetization. Advertisers will be able to pay for product or service placements within relevant Grok responses. For example, if a user asks how to solve a particular task, the bot may suggest a sponsored solution as one of the options.
To improve ad targeting, the platform plans to incorporate technology from Musk’s startup xAI, which specializes in building AI models. This is expected to make targeting more precise and campaigns more effective.
Earlier, it was confirmed that Linda Yaccarino is stepping down as CEO of X Corp. During her nearly two-year tenure, she worked to rebuild ties with major advertisers and succeeded in bringing some back to the platform. Musk now plans to grow X’s ad business independently, with a stronger focus on AI.
