Manufactured by renowned Swedish automobile giant Volvo, the electric truck comes with a payload capacity of 40 tons and can travel up to 300 kilometers on a full charge.
What sets it apart is its quick charging capabilities, with a full recharge taking only 2.5 hours in DC mode and 9.5 hours in AC mode. The initial batch of trucks has already been purchased by Unilever.
Al-Futtaim Auto & Machinery Company (Famco)
Ramez Hamdan, the Managing Director for industrial equipment at Famco, highlighted that the electric truck is one of the fastest vehicles to charge and has undergone testing in extreme weather conditions. From an economic perspective, Hamdan emphasized that the overall cost of an e-truck is significantly lower than that of a diesel-operated truck, taking into account vehicle downtime and the cost of diesel consumption.
Approximately 65% of a truck's operating cost is diesel fuel, making the switch to electric trucks a financially beneficial choice for businesses. Despite the possible initial investment, companies will start saving money in the short term by using electric trucks.
The UAE has made significant progress toward the goal of "net zero" by 2050 in all sectors, especially in mobility. The UAE is ranked eighth globally in terms of readiness or electric mobility, according to Arthur D. Little.
Famco is actively working with major companies and the government to develop charging infrastructure that will facilitate the operation of electric trucks for businesses.
