Apple is planning to start mass production of AirPods equipped with camera modules by 2026, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This follows a report from Bloomberg in February about Apple's development of camera-equipped AirPods.

The new AirPods will feature an infrared camera similar to those used in Face ID on iPhones and iPads. These cameras are expected to integrate with Apple's Vision Pro and future Vision headsets, enhancing user experience. For example, when users turn their heads while watching a video with Vision Pro, the AirPods can emphasize sound from the corresponding direction.

Additionally, the IR camera could enable in-air gesture control by detecting environmental image changes. Foxconn is set to be the supplier for the IR cameras, with an annual capacity plan of 18-20 million units.

Apple is also investigating other wearable form factors, including smart glasses, smart rings, and future versions of the Apple Watch.
