Android XR OS for VR and AR Devices Unveiled

Google has introduced its new operating system, Android XR. The tech giant is entering the race for VR and AR devices — or “extended reality” (XR) devices, as Google calls them. This category includes virtual reality headsets and smart glasses.

Android XR was developed using Google’s own AI, Gemini, which is deeply integrated into the system. The AI analyzes user actions and provides contextual prompts.

Google has already adapted Google Maps, Google Photos, and YouTube for Android XR, with Chrome currently in the works. Additionally, Android XR will support all apps available on the Google Play Store.

Google developed Android XR in collaboration with Samsung and other manufacturers. The first device running the new OS is expected to launch in 2025.
