AMD CEO Lisa Su has declared artificial intelligence the most transformative technology of her career, emphasizing its unprecedented advancements over the past year and a half.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Su noted, “The most exciting part of the computing industry is, how do you enable AI? And our view is AI is going to be everywhere. AI is going to be in every application, every product, everywhere you go, you’re going to need computing.” She highlighted that progress made in AI during the last 18 months has outpaced the advancements of the previous decade.

Su has led AMD since 2014, steering the company from a market underdog to a key industry leader. Under her leadership, AMD has secured a strong position in the server market, capturing approximately one-third of the segment, while mounting a formidable challenge to Nvidia in AI accelerators.

The company’s market capitalization now stands at nearly $220 billion—more than double that of Intel. In stark contrast to AMD’s expected $5 billion revenue from AI accelerators in 2024, Intel has forecast just $500 million. Ten years ago, AMD’s annual revenue was $5.5 billion; by the end of 2024, it is on track to quintuple that figure.

AMD is also challenging Nvidia in the AI accelerator market and has built a reputation for reliability that has attracted major customers. Su predicts that the AI chip market will expand by 60% annually, reaching $500 billion by 2028—making it as large as the entire semiconductor industry is today.
