Microsoft discontinues HoloLens 2 with no plans for a replacement

Microsoft has announced it is discontinuing the HoloLens 2, its advanced mixed reality headset, signaling a shift in its approach to XR technology.

While customers can purchase remaining stock, the company has committed to providing software updates addressing critical security issues until 2027, with full support ending in 2028. Introduced as a high-priced device for enterprise use, HoloLens 2 struggled to gain widespread traction.

Despite considering a new headset, Microsoft appears to be stepping back from the mixed reality market, focusing instead on partnerships with Meta for apps on the Quest platform.
