Apple has successfully had a class action lawsuit dismissed that accused the company of maintaining a "closed ecosystem of apps and services" leading to higher iPhone prices.

The lawsuit was issued after Apple opened the iPhone up to third-party browser engines in the European Union in January. US District Judge Richard Seeborg ruled that the plaintiffs "lack antitrust standing for all their claims."

The lawsuit argued that Apple's agreements with browsers prevent third-party apps from entering the market, particularly highlighting the mandatory use of WebKit on iOS which allegedly restricts web app functionality. This, the plaintiffs claimed, discouraged the development of progressive web apps and led to higher iPhone prices.

Apple countered that its prices are competitive, reflecting the fierce market competition. Judge Seeborg's decision dismissed the lawsuit, though the plaintiffs have been given thirty days to file an amended complaint.
