OpenAI's launch of its latest model, GPT-4o, on May 13 has led to a significant surge in revenue for the ChatGPT mobile app.

Despite GPT-4o being freely available on the web, the model's advanced capabilities in handling text, speech, and video, along with real-time responsiveness and various emotive voice options, have driven a record spike in mobile revenue.

According to Appfigures, this demand is pushing more users to subscribe to OpenAI's $19.99 monthly subscription, ChatGPT Plus, as the latest features are not included in the free mobile app tier.

The app saw a 22% increase in net revenue on the launch day, continuing to rise in the following days. By Tuesday, net revenue reached $900,000, nearly double the app's daily average. From May 13 to 17, the app earned $4.2 million in net revenue, marking its largest revenue spike to date. The majority of this revenue came from Apple's App Store, with the U.S. being the top market at $1.8 million.

This trend indicates strong consumer interest in the latest AI technology, particularly on mobile platforms, even with a higher cost compared to other subscriptions like Netflix. Other significant markets included Germany, the U.K., Japan, and France. The data suggests that the revenue increase is sustaining and may continue to grow.
