Meta's Threads app plans to introduce a fact-checking program next year, aiming to moderate user-generated content by incorporating fact-check ratings from Facebook and Instagram.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, announced the initiative, emphasizing the goal for fact-checking partners to review and rate misinformation on the app. Third-party fact-checking partners will flag and assess content on Threads, with users having the option to adjust the default level of "demotions on fact-checked content" in their personal feeds.

The program will be available early next year and will aim to combat misinformation on social media in the run-up to major events such as elections.

While the move aligns with addressing misinformation, Mosseri clarified that Threads currently does not plan on “amplifying the news” on its platform.
