Twitter is set to introduce several new features, including encrypted direct messages (DMs) and audio and video calls, according to a recent announcement by the platform's owner, Elon Musk.

The announcement comes as part of a wider series of updates for the iOS and Android app, which also includes the ability to reply to any message in a thread and the option to use any emoji as a reaction. The encrypted DMs will offer users greater privacy, with messages that can't be accessed by Twitter.

Additionally, Musk stated that the new voice and video chat feature will allow users to call anyone on the platform, similar to FaceTime.

The platform has also fixed a bug that previously exposed private Twitter Circle tweets to random users in the "For You" tab.
