Apple is simultaneously working on seven augmented and virtual reality devices, according to insider and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared the update on his X blog.

Kuo stated that five of the devices already have confirmed development schedules. The company is reportedly planning to release three Vision-series headsets and four types of smart glasses.

Vision-Series Devices

  • Vision Pro with M5 chip

Kuo says Apple will upgrade the chip from M2 to M5 in the new Vision Pro, while keeping other specs unchanged. Mass production is planned for Q3 2025, with estimated shipments between 150,000 and 200,000 units.

  • Vision Air

This new device will feature “all-new form factor” and a flagship iPhone processor. The headset will be over 40% lighter than the original Vision Pro thanks to replacing the glass front with plastic, titanium with magnesium alloy, and reducing the number of sensors.

Production is scheduled for Q3 2027, with pricing expected to be “significantly lower price point than Vision Pro.”

  • Second-generation Vision Pro with redesigned hardware

This model will include a MacBook-level processor, a completely new design, and a more affordable price tag. It is expected to be lighter and more user-friendly. Mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2028.

Smart Glasses

  • Ray-Ban-like model

According to Kuo, this model has the highest short-term growth potential. It won’t include a display but will offer audio playback, video recording, and AI-powered environmental recognition.

Users will control the glasses via voice and gestures. Kuo believes this model could replace some functions of TWS earbuds.

It’s expected to launch with a wide range of designs. Mass production is set for Q2 2027, with a target shipment volume of 3–5 million units.

  • XR Glasses

This device will feature a built-in display capable of showing color visuals. Voice and gesture controls will be supported. Kuo emphasizes AI integration as the key to its success. Mass production is slated for the second half of 2028.

  • Display Accessory

This is a wired companion device for viewing content from other hardware. The project is currently under review and may undergo a full reboot. Development was paused in fall 2024.
