Apple has filed a lawsuit against its former engineer, Di Liu, accusing him of stealing confidential information related to the Vision Pro headset and attempting to pass it to competitors.
According to the company, Liu allegedly copied sensitive files just days before resigning — including details on hardware design, component testing, and future feature development. He is said to have stored the documents in a personal cloud account before wiping them from his work laptop.
Liu had been with Apple for seven years. Upon leaving, he claimed personal reasons for his departure; however, Apple says he had already joined Snap — a company also working on augmented reality technologies. Apple believes Liu deliberately bypassed internal security protocols, including access termination and device checks.
Through the lawsuit, Apple is demanding the return of all stolen materials and access to Liu’s personal devices for forensic review. The company maintains that the leak could harm its competitive standing in the AR market. Snap, for its part, stated it had no involvement in Liu’s actions.
Liu’s case is not the first time Apple has taken legal action to protect its intellectual property. As interest in augmented reality grows and industry competition intensifies, the company has been tightening measures to safeguard its technological developments.
