Donald Trump’s team has announced an expansive strategy for artificial intelligence, dubbed the AI Action Plan, aiming to deeply integrate AI across the U.S. economy, national security, and federal governance.
The initiative focuses on three pillars: removing barriers to AI innovation, accelerating infrastructure development, and leveraging AI to strengthen U.S. geopolitical influence.
The plan proposes minimizing federal regulation of AI and banning individual states from introducing their own rules, pushing instead for a unified national approach. It also calls for stripping federal AI risk guidelines of references to climate change, inclusivity, and misinformation — branding them as ideologically driven. Tech partners may lose federal support if they can’t demonstrate political neutrality in their models, though no clear standards have been defined.
One of the top priorities is rapid expansion of data centers, semiconductor manufacturing facilities, and energy infrastructure. AI will be rolled out across key sectors such as defense, public services, and government agencies. Workforce retraining and stricter export controls, particularly targeting China, are also included in the agenda.
Trump’s advisors warn the U.S. is at a crossroads: either it leads the global AI race or cedes ground to rival powers. The first executive orders are expected in the coming days, with Trump set to share more details at the upcoming Hill & Valley tech summit.
