OpenAI Launches Sora Video Generator for U.S. ChatGPT Users

OpenAI has introduced a new AI model called Sora Turbo, designed for generating videos from text descriptions with a relatively low-cost pricing structure.

Starting December 10, 2024, Sora Turbo is available to ChatGPT users in the U.S. and select other countries. EU countries are excluded from the list of supported regions.

Sora Turbo generates videos ranging from 5 to 20 seconds in length, with resolutions between 480p and 1080p. Pricing is based on a credit system, with the cost varying by quality and duration:

• 480p videos cost 20–150 credits
• 720p videos cost 30–540 credits
• 1080p videos cost 100–2000 credits

ChatGPT Plus subscribers ($20/month) receive 1,000 credits per month, which covers up to 50 priority 5-second videos at 720p resolution. The new ChatGPT Pro tier ($200/month) provides 10,000 credits, enabling the creation of up to 500 priority 20-second videos in 1080p resolution. Pro users also have the option to generate videos without a watermark.
