It's almost 80% of the US labor force.

New research from OpenAI and the University of Pennsylvania suggests that OpenAI's ChatGPT could significantly impact the American workforce, particularly those in tech, with a college education, and earning up to $80,000 a year.

According to the study, up to 80% of the US labor force could see "at least 10% of their work tasks affected" by GPT language models, with 19% of workers potentially seeing at least 50% of their tasks impacted. The study found that those in higher-wage jobs are at higher risk of exposure, with information processing industries such as IT being the most exposed to generative AI.

The research highlights the need for policymakers to consider the potential impact of AI on job quality, inequality, and skill development. While the study is not definitive, the researchers suggest that the impact of GPTs on the economy is likely to persist and increase, presenting challenges for policymakers in regulating their trajectory.
