Apple is developing an Apple TV app for Android phones and tablets, Bloomberg reports.

The company is hiring engineers to lead the effort. Previously, Apple only made an app for the Android smart TV platform, not Android devices.

Until now, Android users had to use the web at tv.apple.com to watch Apple TV+ shows or MLS Season Pass. A native app will provide a better experience, including features like offline downloads.

The Apple TV app offers access to Apple TV+ originals, other channels, and a store for buying and renting movies and shows. It also includes Apple's sports offerings like Friday Night Baseball and MLS Season Pass.

Apple has expanded the TV app to many third-party platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, PlayStation, Xbox, and Xfinity cable boxes. Last year, a native Windows desktop app was released.

The new Android TV app will make it easier for non-iPhone users to access Apple TV+. However, the release date is still unclear as development has just started.
