OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared bold visions for the future of artificial intelligence during a podcast with comedian Theo Von, including the idea that AI will soon be capable of running major companies.
According to Altman, GPT-5 already outperforms him in certain key areas. He described feeling "useless" when the model instantly solved a complex problem he had struggled with — a moment he believes foreshadows a wave of professional displacement as AI becomes increasingly capable.
Altman suggested that in the near future, an AI system could take over the CEO role, even his own position at OpenAI. He believes human and AI capabilities will soon diverge so dramatically that autonomous agents will replace managers.
