Netflix has officially begun cutting off long-time subscribers who have been using Apple iTunes billing plans.

This move affects members on the basic plan who were previously using iTunes as their payment method. The change marks the end of an era for subscribers who have enjoyed legacy pricing plans, with some paying the same rate for years. Now, they must either accept a price increase or opt for an ad-supported plan at a lower cost.

This move signals the end of a saga that began when Netflix resisted Apple's 30 percent cut for in-app subscriptions back in 2015. Ultimately, in late 2018, Netflix discontinued in-app subscriptions altogether, signaling a shift away from reliance on Apple's billing system.
