Apple is gearing up for significant AI upgrades in iOS 18, and a peek into the code of iOS 17.4 reveals the company's interesting approach. In the development process, Apple is utilizing OpenAI's ChatGPT API for internal testing, especially in a framework called SiriSummarization.

SiriSummarization is a tool that helps Siri understand and summarize information better. Apparently Apple uses its own artificial intelligence models to power this framework, and then internally compares its results to those of ChatGPT.

According to the iOS 17.4 code, Apple is testing four different AI models. One of them is Apple's own "Ajax" model. There are also versions of AjaxGPT, one of which processed on the device, and one - not. Alongside these, Apple is checking out ChatGPT and FLAN-T5, indicating a thorough testing approach.

Apple is seriously into making Siri and Messages smarter with AI. The use of ChatGPT in testing shows that Apple is keen on exploring different AI models to see what works best for their goals. As we look forward to iOS 18, it seems Apple is all about bringing advanced language models into the mix to make Siri and Messages more capable and user-friendly.
