With the Lens Creator Rewards program, Snapchat aims to inspire creators to explore new capabilities and techniques, enriching the AR experience for users globally.
The company announced the initiative on Tuesday, giving AR creators a chance to earn money for their top-performing Lenses. Creators can earn up to $7,200 per month if their creations demonstrate high engagement across the U.S., India and Mexico.
While the initial focus is on these three countries, Lens creators from 40 eligible nations can also receive rewards if their Lenses perform well in the target regions. Sophia Dominguez, Snap's director of AR Platform Partnerships and Ecosystem, highlighted the company's intention to start small and gather feedback from the community before expanding the program to additional markets. The goal is to ensure the initiative's success globally.
Snapchat will evaluate various metrics, such as views and specific Lens-specific data, to determine the authors' eligibility for rewards. The company will also evaluate user engagement with the Lenses to determine their popularity. More information on eligibility and requirements will be made public as the program rolls out.
Once selected for a reward, creators will receive an email notification along with updates within their creator hub. Paige Piskin, one of Snapchat's top creators, expressed excitement about the program, believing it will offer new revenue opportunities for Lens creators. Piskin, who has generated billions of impressions and shares with her effects, mentioned that she had never been able to monetize her traffic before.
Snapchat's AR community boasts over 300,000 creators, developers, and teams, who have collectively produced over 3 million Lenses. These Lenses have garnered an astounding 5 trillion views, indicating the massive popularity of AR content on the platform.
