Apple’s music recognition service Shazam is now available directly inside ChatGPT, allowing users to identify songs without opening a separate app.
The integration means that ChatGPT can now recognize music using Shazam’s technology. Instead of launching the Shazam app, users can simply ask the chatbot something like “Shazam, what’s playing?” or “Shazam, what is this song?” and receive the result within the chat.
The feature works through a dedicated Shazam app integration inside ChatGPT. After linking it from the Apps section in ChatGPT settings, users can invoke the service in conversation by typing @Shazam or starting a request with the word “Shazam”.

Once activated, ChatGPT opens a “Tap to Shazam” interface, listens to the audio around the device, and identifies the track using Shazam’s recognition technology.
After the song is identified, ChatGPT displays a card with key information including the song title, artist, album artwork, and statistics showing how many times the track has been identified through Shazam. Users can preview the track directly inside the chat or continue the conversation — for example by asking ChatGPT to create a playlist based on the discovered song.
Importantly, the integration does not require the Shazam app to be installed. Music recognition works entirely inside ChatGPT across iOS, Android and the web. However, if the Shazam app is installed on the device, identified songs can also be automatically saved to the user’s Shazam library, allowing them to revisit discoveries later.
According to OpenAI, the Shazam integration is rolling out globally across ChatGPT and will gradually become available to users on mobile and web platforms.
