According to Sensor Tower, messaging apps have been facing declining downloads lately, but Telegram and WeChat are becoming the exception, showing positive growth in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2020.

As users increasingly prioritize security and privacy when using social apps, these two platforms stand out because they offer strong privacy features.

While popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Skype have experienced a decline in downloads, Telegram and WeChat have seen an upward trend. This shift can be linked to users' rising awareness of the potential risks associated with submitting personal information on social platforms.

Telegram, known for its strong emphasis on privacy and security, showed an impressive 82 percent increase in downloads during Q1 2023, compared to the same period in 2020.

Notably, Cambodia played a significant role in this growth, contributing to a remarkable 265 percent growth in Q1 2023 compared to the previous quarter. As a result, Cambodia has become Telegram's third-largest market, reflecting the increasing demand for secure messaging options in the country.

As more people look for platforms that prioritize the protection of their data and offer secure communication channels, Telegram and WeChat stand a good chance of continuing to attract so more and more users.
