Instagram is simplifying the process of editing Reels and introducing additional functionalities to discover popular content.

Yesterday, Instagram introduced several new features for its Reels, a platform designed to compete with TikTok. The most significant change is the ability for users to edit their video clips, audio, stickers, and text overlays all in one screen instead of having to perform these tasks in separate steps. This new editing feature includes a timeline editing function similar to TikTok's, making transitions smoother and lining up audio and video clips easier.

Instagram users will also have access to a new way of discovering trending videos. Trending hashtags and songs are essential for creating viral content, but until now, there hasn't been a quick and easy way to see what is popular on Reels. With the new Reels page, users can view what's trending on Instagram and how many videos are using specific audio, save audio for later, or use it directly in their own videos.

Additionally, the update includes tools for creators to analyze their content's performance and engage with their fans. Creators can now view the total time audiences spent watching their Reels, the average watch time of their videos, and receive notifications when a new follower found them through a Reel video.

Both Instagram and TikTok face challenges in keeping content creators happy with how they make money on their platforms. One alternative for monetizing content is virtual tips from fans, and Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube all have a version of this feature.

An update to the Reels gifting feature will now allow creators to see which fans have sent them gifts and acknowledge them by tapping a heart icon.
