Telegram is preparing a major fall update, rolling out under version 12.0, which will bring some of the biggest changes to the messenger in years.

One of the most visible updates is a redesigned profile interface for Android. According to Durov’s Code, this marks the first large-scale profile redesign on the platform in almost 4 years, aligning the look and feel with iOS profiles. Users will also gain more control over what others see first: for example, they can set “Gifts” as the primary tab while moving “Stories” to the background.

Alongside the redesign, Telegram is rolling out a feature that lets users showcase the music they’re currently listening to directly on their profile. Durov’s Code was able to test the feature on a closed server, and here’s how it works:

  • A user plays a track and adds it to their profile with a single tap.
  • Visitors to the profile can see the track currently displayed.
  • By clicking on the track, they gain access to all the songs the user has added to their playlist.

While Telegram still doesn’t offer an official music library or full streaming service, this feature builds on its long-standing ability to upload and share audio files in chats and channels.

The redesign comes after Telegram launched a developer contest in June, inviting participants to reimagine Android profile pages. The prize pool was set at $50,000, with the winning developer offered a job in Dubai and a salary of up to $1 million.
