WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will convert voice message into text

The ability to transcribe audio notes has been revealed in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS.

WABetaInfo reported that the development was postponed since September 2021. Currently WhatsApp is testing the feature and it is expected that the app will soon transcribe audio message into text.

Transcripts may be unavailable when no words are recognized in the voice note or transcripts are set to different language.

In terms of privacy, transcriptions will be performed locally on the device and will not be shared with WhatsApp or Apple services.

For now, the feature is in beta-testing stage, the release date of the final version with the new feature is still unknown.

Telegram already performs audio and video transcription. But the feature is available for Premium subscribers only.
