The collaboration marks Ive's first hardware project since leaving Apple and showcases his design expertise beyond digital devices.

The 50th anniversary edition, named Sondek LP12-50, will be produced in a limited quantity of 250 units, available for reservation at a staggering price of $60,000 (£50,000).

The collaboration between LoveFrom and Linn began in early 2022 when Linn CEO Gilad Tiefenbrun received an unexpected meeting request from Ive through LinkedIn. Both companies saw an opportunity to combine their expertise and work on the special edition turntable.

Linn focused on refining the sonic elements of the Sondek LP12-50, utilizing a specially designed "Bedrok" plinth to minimize vibrations. LoveFrom, on the other hand, contributed to the industrial design by making delicate improvements and changes to the existing design.

Notable design improvements include smoother edges on previously square components, replacing the plastic power button with an aluminum circle, and developing new hinges for the dust cover that allow it to be held open at any angle. Ive described the collaboration as an opportunity to make small improvements and bring his design philosophy to an iconic audio device.

Interestingly, LoveFrom's participation in the project was pro bono, indicating their passion and commitment to the design process. Ive emphasized that a substantial portion of their work is driven by the love of doing it, while the design firm generates revenue from long-term contracts with clients such as Airbnb and Ferrari.

The collaboration showcases LoveFrom's ability to create meaningful and aesthetically pleasing designs across various industries. Previous projects by LoveFrom have included creating a typeface, designing an emblem for King Charles' coronation, and even crafting a clown nose for the British charity Comic Relief.
