60-year-old German immigrant Petra Kaltenbach is a fine artist, video artist and curator of World Art Dubai. Living in Dubai since 2004, Petra calls the period of her immigration to the UAE the transformation moment in the country’s development. She confesses seeing this major transformation as a key theme for her art, which can be best approved by sand painting technique that she chose at the very beginning of her art journey in Dubai.
Searching for new motives and topics Petra found inspiration in pomegranate which appears to be a synonym for ”health”, ”wealth” and ”fertility”. Pomegranate first appeared in Petra’s art pieces in 2015 – the time the artist started to combine the QR technology with her art videos. Female artist tried to use the QR code to connect the physical work with video art and noticed that at that time the public was unaware of the essence of such art and its aim. Nowadays with 7 years passed, she admits, everyone knows the QR technology.
Meanwhile, the artist switched to augmented reality (AR), which she found a little more sophisticated and smart. Petra started to combine digital files with her art, thus, the art pieces are a mix of physical brush strokes and digital art. For this technology she uses UV print: printed digital art is further complemented by hand-drawn details. Elements of physical painting and animated elements are brought all together. Once you scan the physical artwork or a photo of it with your gadget’s camera the art video is starting to play on your screen. Thus, an NFT art video is created.
”It is the real mixture between the digital and the physical,” Petra Kaltenbach describes her artworks.
Last but not least, Petra Kaltenbach admits that NFT is a certificate of ownership, a documented way of your digital work from sale to purchase.”If you want to buy a digital work and you uploaded blockchain, then everyone can see who is the owner at the moment, at what price you want to sell it,” she says.
