DeLorean has revealed images of the Alpha5 electric car. This is a new version of DMC-12, which was produced from 1981 to 1983. The car became popular thanks to the Back to the Future film trilogy.

The car will be officially unveiled in August 2022, with production starting in 2024 in Italy. The Alpha5 will be a limited production run of 88 cars, a reference to the 88 mph (141.62 km/h) to which the car is supposed to travel through time in the film.

The acceleration time to 60mph (96km/h) is 3.4 seconds and the top speed is 150mph (241km/h). The DeLorean EV is targeting a 100 kWh battery pack that should provide north of 300 miles (482.8 km) of range and power a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup with a range of 300 miles (482.8 km).

The Alpha5 was designed by Italdesign, which also created the original car. The Alpha5 still has the same gullwing doors but differs from the DMC-12 in other respects and also has a four-seat interior.

The price of the car is not yet known. In the future, DeLorean will also produce a V8-powered sports coupe and electric SUV.
