Boston Dynamics has released a new video showcasing its latest humanoid robot, Atlas, functioning autonomously.
Unlike previous demonstrations that highlighted Atlas's mobility, this footage reveals the robot performing sorting tasks in a simulated factory, using machine learning and upgraded sensors to operate independently.
In the video, Atlas moves engine covers between containers based on a simple list of locations. Equipped with advanced sensors and three-fingered hands, it identifies each bin and adjusts its position when met with obstacles—demonstrating a high level of autonomy. For example, when a part doesn't fit smoothly into a compartment, Atlas repositions it before trying again successfully.
The video's “Fully Autonomous” label emphasizes the robot's independence, contrasting with Tesla's Optimus robots, which recently required remote human control.
