According to sources, Apple is actively working on a new HomePod model amid recent speculation of LCD-equipped prototypes.

Images of a prototype HomePod with an LCD display on top have emerged, shared by the Apple prototype collector known as Kosutami. These images indicate that Apple may be exploring a HomePod design with enhanced functionality.

The leaked images reveal a HomePod prototype with a large touch screen sensor at the top, significantly larger than the current HomePod panel. Kosutami also shared a photo of a prototype with a fully functional LCD display on top. It is claimed that the design of these leaked HomePods looks like a second-generation HomePod, rather than the discontinued first-generation model.

9to5Mac has verified the authenticity of these images through its own sources and has obtained additional information about the HomePod with an LCD display, codenamed B720. This prototype is currently in advanced development stages, suggesting that Apple may have plans to introduce it in the near future. While the exact release date remains uncertain, Apple appears to be actively working on a new HomePod design.

To support the LCD display, Apple has been reworking some tvOS apps to accommodate different display formats. The HomePod runs a modified version of tvOS, and evidence in the tvOS 17 code indicates that Apple Music and Apple Podcasts are among the first apps being adapted for the new display format. The display is expected to show animated album art during music playback and may provide notifications for phone calls and messages.

It's important to note that this HomePod prototype is subject to change or cancelation, but it represents a potential candidate for the next generation of HomePod devices, depending on Apple's decision to continue its development.
