According to a new survey from AppDynamics, a part of Cisco, 88% of respondents in the UAE want to use medical wearable devices such as fitbits or smartwatches, or medical apps in the next 12 months.

There are different forecasts for the development of medical devices. For example, the global market for wearable medical devices will reach $30.1 billion by 2026 ($16.2 billion in 2021). In addition, according to Deloitte, 320 million consumer medical wearable devices will be sold globally in 2022.

In the UAE, 95% believe that wearable technology now has the potential to positively change both their personal health and healthcare in general.

More than 350,000 digital health apps are currently available to consumers, with 47% focused on managing specific health conditions. And by 2022, that number is expected to increase even further.

Among the features UAE residents want to use are measuring heart rate, blood pressure, heart rhythms, physical activity and respiratory rate, disease alerts, improving fitness goals, managing chronic diseases, supporting healthy eating and detecting the spread of infectious diseases.

UAE respondents were more willing to continue using or try another wearable device after an unsuccessful experience.  65% said a bad digital experience might stop them using a particular wearable device or app. Globally, 56% of respondents said a bad digital experience could cause them to stop using other wearable devices or apps for health and wellbeing, with 54% of Gulf respondents answering similarly.

AppDynamics conducted the survey in the UK, France, Germany, Singapore, UAE, Australia, India, US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Colombia.
