OpenAI's official press account on X has been hacked by cryptocurrency scammers, similar to previous incidents targeting the company's leadership.

The compromised account falsely announced a new blockchain token called “$OPENAI,” claiming that all OpenAI users could claim a portion of it. The post linked to a phishing site designed to steal users' cryptocurrency wallet credentials.

This isn't the first phishing attempt involving OpenAI; similar messages promoting $OPENAI had appeared on accounts of the company's executives earlier this year.

The FBI reported that Americans lost $5.6 billion to crypto scams in 2023, highlighting a troubling rise in such fraud.
