Elon Musk announced that SpaceX will launch its first uncrewed Starships to Mars in two years during the next Earth-Mars transfer window.
In a post on social media platform X, Musk stated these initial missions will test the reliability of landing Starships intact on the Martian surface. If successful, the company plans to launch a crewed mission to Mars in four years and then build a self- sustaining city on the planet within 20 years.
Musk's ambitious vision for space exploration relies on Starship, a next-generation spacecraft designed to transport people and cargo to both the Moon and Mars. In June, SpaceX achieved a significant milestone when a Starship rocket completed a full test mission, including a successful landing in the Indian Ocean.
