Threads, the social platform, is set to unveil its API by the end of June following successful testing with select partners, including Hootsuite, Sprinklr, and Techmeme.

This move will enable developers to create third-party apps for Threads and enable direct publishing to the platform from external sites.

The API rollout, announced by Threads developer Jesse Chan, will initially support functions such as user authentication, thread publication, and content retrieval. Additional features are expected to be introduced gradually.

The introduction of the Threads API is a departure from recent social media trends where platforms have limited or discontinued support for third-party applications. This shift puts Threads on par with competitors such as Bluesky and Mastodon, which have gone the route of integrating third-party apps from the start, offering users a wider range of content creation and interaction options.
