Previously limited to Premium subscribers, this move aims to democratize access to communication tools on the platform.

With the expansion, all users will soon have access to audio and video calls within the X app's direct messaging functionality, similar to other popular apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. Integration with the iOS CallKit API ensures incoming calls are displayed on the Lock Screen like regular phone calls.

While the feature sparked initial controversy, users can control their call settings to manage who can contact them. By navigating to the Privacy and Safety settings in the X app, users can specify preferences such as receiving calls from contacts, accounts they follow, or only verified users. Additionally, users have the option to disable the calling feature entirely.

To enjoy the enhanced calling capabilities, users are encouraged to update their X app to the latest version.
