As of January 2024, creators on Tumblr will no longer be able to offer paywalled content through the Post Plus feature.

The move follows a leaked memo revealing Tumblr's plans to streamline its operations after facing challenges in meeting usage and revenue goals.

The discontinuation of Post Plus aligns with Tumblr's renewed focus on core functionality, according to Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg, who emphasized the company's commitment to its community of creators.

Post Plus, introduced in 2021, aimed to empower creators by allowing them to monetize their content, but Tumblr acknowledged that the feature didn't meet expectations. While existing Post Plus content will be accessible until the end of this year, it will transition to private status in January 2024. Additionally, creators won't be able to produce new Post Plus content, and subscribers will no longer face charges.
