Users can tag topics on Threads to categorize posts by interest or theme using the "#" symbol, but the symbol itself won't be displayed when the tags are shown.

Instead, the tags will appear as clickable blue links, offering a more elegant approach to hashtags. The initial test is launching in Australia, with plans to expand to more countries based on user feedback.

To use the new tags, Threads users will tap a new "#" button in the app or type the symbol followed by text. As they type, suggested tags will appear to assist in autocomplete, or users can create new tags from scratch. After selecting a tag and publishing a post, anyone can click on the tag to view other related posts on the same topic.

Threads will only allow one tag per post to prevent spamming due to the use of multiple tags.
