Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to introduce a new payment method for public transport commuters that allows them to pay their fares through facial recognition.
This innovative system, showcased at GITEX 2023, will eliminate the need for physical tickets, nol cards, or credit cards on Dubai's Metro, Tram, buses, taxis, and marine transport services.
The facial recognition system works by registering and identifying the user's face through 3D analysis. Once the facial data is matched with the user's information, the fare amount is deducted from their account. This technology aims to integrate transport services and streamline transactions, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing the reliance on cash transactions.
In addition to the facial recognition payment system, RTA is unveiling several other smart projects at GITEX 2023:
Transfer of Plate Number Ownership: RTA is introducing a service that enables customers to transfer ownership of vehicle number plates through the RTA Dubai Drive app. This digital service simplifies the ownership transfer process and eliminates the need for physical visits to RTA service centers.
Predicting Parking Occupancy: RTA is utilizing AI and big data to predict parking occupancy rates by analyzing parking reservation transactions and inspection data. This predictive model provides real-time information on parking availability, helping customers plan their trips effectively.
These smart initiatives highlight RTA's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance transportation services and improve the overall commuter experience in Dubai.
