Pinterest is taking steps to make its image-based platform more inclusive by introducing computer vision technology that identifies various body types.

The technology, which focuses on shape, size, and form, will be used to enhance Pinterest's search algorithms. Initially, it will be applied to searches related to women's fashion and wedding content, with broader expansion planned.

This initiative aims to address body size discrimination, which affects millions of individuals, according to data from the Campaign for Size Freedom. By implementing this technology, Pinterest intends to provide more diverse search results that take into account different body shapes.

The company collaborated with experts, including the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA), as well as supporters and authors, to develop this feature.

Pinterest's goal is to improve the representation of different body types by 454% in women's fashion-related searches in the United States. This move is part of Pinterest's ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive platform, following previous features like skin tone ranges and hair pattern search options.
