Elon Musk has shared his intention to sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization known for its efforts to combat antisemitism and bigotry.
Musk took to Twitter to announce the forthcoming lawsuit, stating, "To clear our platform's name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League... oh the irony!" This declaration followed Musk's claim of being a supporter of free speech while opposing antisemitism in all its forms.
Furthermore, Musk attributed X's significant decline in U.S. advertising revenue to pressure exerted by the ADL on advertisers. He alleged that the ADL's actions almost led to the demise of X/Twitter, with U.S. advertising revenue reportedly down by 60%.
The controversy escalated when Musk was found to have engaged with the hashtag #BanTheADL on X, which had been trending. This trend coincided with the ADL's statement about a productive discussion with X CEO Linda Yaccarino regarding combatting hate speech on the platform.
Musk accused the ADL of making false accusations against him and X after acquiring the platform, warning that if such actions don't stop, he will file a defamation lawsuit against the ironically named "Anti-Defamation" league.
