Samsung reveals smart glasses powered by Gemini

Samsung has unveiled its first pair of smart glasses during the Galaxy Unpacked event in London.

According to the company, the device expands the Galaxy ecosystem beyond smartphones and is designed as an everyday wearable for work, travel, and situations where users need hands-free access to information.

The glasses were developed in collaboration with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker and will be available in two versions: a black model by Gentle Monster and a brown model by Warby Parker.

The device is powered by Google Gemini and Android XR, and includes a built-in camera that allows the AI assistant to see what the wearer is looking at.

Samsung says the glasses support real-time speech translation, navigation assistance, contextual information about the surrounding environment, AI-generated summaries of long messages, and text-to-speech.

Users can also ask the glasses to remember what they are seeing, such as notes on a whiteboard or discussions during a meeting, with key information automatically saved. During video calls, the glasses can stream a first-person view to the other participant.

The glasses are controlled through voice commands and gestures when paired with Galaxy devices. Samsung says they offer up to nine hours of battery life, with the charging case providing up to seven additional full charges, and are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip.

The company also said the glasses include privacy features designed for responsible use, including a recording indicator that lets people nearby know when the camera is active.

Samsung has not yet announced pricing, display specifications, or a release date. Google said the device is expected to launch in the near future.
