Apple and Microsoft challenge EU regulations on iMessage and Bing

Apple and Microsoft are reportedly making efforts to keep iMessage and Bing off a list of "gatekeepers" subject to new European regulations outlined in the Digital Markets Act.

The companies argue that their services are not large and influential enough to meet the restrictions and requirements outlined in the law, which aims to promote competition in the technology industry.

On September 6, the European Commission will release a list of designated gatekeepers, which will include both companies and specific services. These "gatekeepers," selected based on their revenues and number of users, will be required to comply with a number of rules on engagement and competition.

While Apple and Microsoft are already on the list of "gatekeepers," they are currently arguing over which parts of their businesses should be subject to these rules.
