Sony Group has developed a technology capable of identifying music used in compositions generated by artificial intelligence.
According to the company, the system could allow songwriters to claim compensation from AI developers if their music was used to create new tracks, Nikkei Asia reports.
Analysts estimate that the global market for AI-generated music was worth $5.2 million in 2024 and is expected to exceed $6.5 billion in 2025. Data from major distributor Ditto Music shows that 60% of musicians now use AI tools to create and produce music, up from 25% a year earlier.
At the same time, a survey by UK Music found that 77% of respondents are concerned that AI-generated tracks often fail to credit the original creators. Research conducted by Deezer in partnership with Ipsos found that 97% of participants could not distinguish AI-generated songs from human-made ones, while 52% said they feel uncomfortable when they cannot tell what they are listening to.
