McLaren Racing and Google, the official main partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team, have unveiled a gorgeous chrome livery that will feature on the McLaren MCL60 F1 cars at the upcoming 2023 British Grand Prix.
The Chrome livery is a nostalgic look at McLaren's beloved design, recalling the iconic chrome era in which the team competed from 2006 to 2014.
This unique livery celebrates McLaren's rich history, notably marked by Lewis Hamilton's historic Driver's World Championship in 2008, coinciding with the launch of Google's Chrome browser. The Chrome brand symbolizes speed, reliability, and security, aligning perfectly with the essence of Formula 1. The livery takeover at Silverstone aims to connect McLaren fans with a beloved design from the team's past.
The unveiling of the Chrome livery at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking took place on Monday 3 July, with McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in attendance. The livery will grace both MCL60 race cars throughout the entire British Grand Prix race weekend.
In addition to the stunning livery, Lando Norris will showcase a specially designed helmet and custom-made boots.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, expressed the team's excitement, stating, "It's no secret that racing fans love McLaren's classic chrome livery. Google Chrome wanted to bring back elements of this iconic design to celebrate our team's history at the British Grand Prix, and we're thrilled to fulfill our fans' wishes. I'm sure this livery will evoke great memories for many of our supporters, and I can't wait to see it on track at our home race."
Nick Drake, VP Global Marketing at Google, expressed their privilege in collaborating with McLaren and their enthusiasm for the livery reveal. He commented, "It's been a privilege for the Google Chrome team to work with McLaren on bringing back elements of an iconic livery for this special takeover. We were delighted with the fans' reaction to the branded wheel covers that introduced our partnership, and now Google Chrome is putting chrome back on the McLaren for its home race. We're looking forward to Silverstone and hope all McLaren fans enjoy what promises to be a really exciting weekend of racing."
